Yes, you read that correctly! I LOVE cookie dough… It is my all time favorite guilty pleasure food.
As long as I can remember I have always eaten cookie dough from every batch of cookies I have been in front of. Is it delicious? Yes. Satisfying? Absolutely. Safe? Ehh…not really.
If you are like me, then most of your life you have nibbled on raw cookie dough without much issue, even though cookie dough is usually comprised of uncooked dairy and eggs.
Not to mention that eating grains, butter and sugar by the spoonful doesn’t really work when you’re trying to stay healthy!
While eating raw cookie dough is a delicious gamble, sometimes we push our luck too often and there can be a price that our stomachs will pay for eating raw dairy. This is what led me to seek out similarly delicious alternatives.
Upon initially discovering this recipe I thought to myself, “No!” While I was hesitant at first, I have to admit that it is actually very tasty, and can be made in a variety of ways.
Chickpea Cookie Dough by From My Bowl
- 1 ½ cups cooked chickpeas
- ¼ cup nut or seed butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp oat flour or ¼ cup almond flour
- 2 tbsp maple syrup to taste
- ¼ cup dairy-free chocolate chips (or other add ins of choice)
- ½ tsp salt
Place ingredients into a food processor until the mixture thickens to a dough like consistency, That’s it! Quick, simple, and effective. The dough will keep for about a week in the fridge.
The recipe can also be tweaked to your liking. Want to go grain free? Almond flour works just fine. Want to substitute the syrup for something less refined? Dates are a good option.
This recipe will yield cookie dough that is grain free, dairy free, and vegan or however you want it! There is also the added benefit of containing little refined sugar and a plant protein source from the chickpeas.
I constantly make a new batch because this completely satiates my sweet tooth and is relatively filling for just being a snack.
While I do love the taste of regular cookie dough, I do not love the stomach pain from eating raw eggs and dairy with the copious amounts of processed sugar that goes with it.
With the chickpea cookie dough you have a plant based protein, much less sugar, no dairy, and can be vegan or grain free. All the amazing cookie dough taste with no stomach pain!
